A Note from our Branch Secretary

As my first year as Branch Secretary draws to a close, I am proud to reflect on our collective achievements and their far-reaching impact. It has been a year defined by perseverance and progress. One of our standout successes has been the launch of our new social media platforms and the platform you’re reading this on, our new website which has given our branch unprecedented exposure and engagement. For the first time, this has been done properly and professionally, and the results speak for themselves.

This year also saw the completion and rollout of our building inspection app, which has significantly enhanced member safety. At our annual conference, our Capital Branch reps confidently spoke on the propositions we presented, with some doing so for the very first time, while also supporting those brought forward by our fellow branches. We worked tirelessly to support the members facing redundancy, helping many secure alternative roles or enhanced redundancy terms amidst the adversity imposed by the company and broader industry challenges. Meanwhile, our everyday work as the voice and cornerstone for our members has remained unwavering. We have held the company to account, challenged their interpretation of policies and procedures, and steadfastly defended our members’ rights and jobs through difficult and testing times.

Sadly, this year also brought the loss of three key representatives due to redundancies and business changes. I want to thank Dave, Jason, and Ishak for their dedication and invaluable contributions to the branch. I wish them all the very best in their future endeavours and hope they will remain connected with us.

It has been my privilege to work alongside such a dedicated, hardworking, and caring team who consistently rise to every challenge, going above and beyond—often at personal cost. To them, I offer not just my thanks but my deepest admiration although I suspect they’d appreciate fewer late-night emails from me next year!

Strength in solidarity.
