What is a Disability?

A Disability is any physical, mental, or sensory condition that has a long-term and substantial impact on a person’s ability to carry out day-to-day activities. This can include visible conditions like mobility impairments, as well as invisible disabilities such as chronic illnesses, mental health conditions, learning difficulties, or neurodivergence.

You do not have to use a wheelchair or receive formal care to be considered disabled. The Equality Act 2010 protects people from discrimination based on a wide range of physical and mental health conditions.

Disabilities can be:

Visible or hidden

Permanent or temporary

Diagnosed or undiagnosed
