We are calling on our members to join the upcoming Anti-Racism Rally, organised by Stand Up to Racism (SUTR), on Saturday, 26th October in Central London. This rally is a vital opportunity for us to unite and show our collective strength against racism and far-right extremism.
The event is in response to the call by far right agitator Tommy Robinson for his followers to gather in the city, making it more crucial than ever that we stand together and make our voices heard. Tommy Robinson is coming to London with a hate march to spread his racism and Islamophobia. Robinson is a fascist who founded the English Defence League. You might remember that in July he marched with 20,000 others, chanting Islamophobic and racist chants. The following week, saw far-right riots across the country. We’ve always been a committed supporter of the anti-racism movement, and now is the time to show up and oppose hate in all its forms.
Our General Secretary, Dave Ward will be among the key speakers at the rally, emphasising the need for a trade union-led strategy that reaches across all communities. This demonstration is also supported by the TUC, highlighting the importance of solidarity in the face of divisive ideologies.
Stand Up to Racism is organising coaches from across the UK to make it easier for everyone to attend. If you’re interested, check the Stand Up to Racism website for details. The TUC block meeting point will be on the corner of Jermyn Street and Regents Street/St James Street, with assembly beginning at 11:30 AM.
For safety reasons, please avoid Victoria Station, as it will be a gathering point for far-right activists. If you must pass through, we advise you to remove any insignia that identifies your affiliation.
This is an important moment in the fight for equality and justice. Let’s stand up, speak out, and take action together. If you have questions or concerns please direct them to the event organisers Stand Up to Racism here and here.
