This week CWU Capital attend the OpenReach briefing. Our attendance allowed us to hear the latest issues that would be affecting our members. The briefing saw two critical topics centre stage: redundancies in Openreach and gender equality in the workplace.
Supporting Branches Through Openreach Redundancies
The National CWU team of Andy Mercer, Fiona Curtis, and Chris Dukes have been hard at work updating branches on the ongoing redundancy situation at Openreach. As always, our priority is ensuring that affected members receive clear communication, robust support, and the representation they deserve during this challenging time.
If you’re impacted or have questions, please reach out to us here.
Women in the Workforce: Driving Equality and Tackling Discrimination
The morning then saw Openreach host an insightful session led by Mark Rainbow and two of his female colleagues. Their presentation focused on increasing women’s participation in the workforce and addressing the persistent issues of sexual discrimination.
This conversation underscores the importance of fostering inclusivity in traditionally male-dominated industries. CWU Capital is proud to support initiatives that challenge stereotypes and build a fairer, more inclusive workplace for all.
Standing Together for a Better Future
Whether it’s tackling redundancies or championing workplace equality, CWU Capital remains steadfast in our commitment to our members. These discussions highlight why staying informed and organised matters more than ever for workers across BT Openreach. Redundancies, equality, career development and workplace culture all have a direct impact on members’ day to day lives.
If you would like to learn more about employment rights, redundancy guidance or equality protections, useful information is available through organisations such as ACAS, GOV.UK, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission. CWU Capital will continue to monitor developments closely and keep members updated with the latest branch news and support.
We believe that collective action is the foundation of real progress, and together, we will continue to fight for fairness, equity, and respect in every workplace.
