The importance of health, safety and welfare
The importance of health and safety in the workplace simply cannot be underestimated. As well as being the law, it should be the number one mission statement for all good employers to make sure their staff are not at risk of any injury as a result of the work they do.
Health, safety and welfare serves to protect the employee, our members, any visitors to the business, like clients members of the general public. Employers have a duty of care to ensure a safe working environment under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, but more than that, it’s good business practice to adhere to health and safety laws.
What happens if my employer breaches the law on health and safety?
In the event, a business breaks the law on health and safety they face the prospect of; losing staff, higher recruitment costs, lower retention rates and even worse, lower profitability. If all of that was a worry, it could come at a cost to the employee too, through illness, injury and worst still, death.
