BT 2009 Pay Bulletin

Pay Bulletin No.7
1st June 2009

NO TO A PAY FREEZE!

YES TO A SIGNIFICANT RISE FOR ALL GRADES!

The CWU is continuing to seek a negotiated pay settlement for our BT members this year, but at this stage and after more than three months of difficult discussions, the Company has not moved from its position of a pay freeze.

Throughout the negotiations, BT has insisted that a consolidated pay rise for CWU members is simply unaffordable given the Company's commercial and competitive challenges.

The CWU has consistently argued that BT's success will rely on its ability to motivate and reward staff appropriately, and that CWU members should not be expected to pay for the mistakes of senior managers in BT Global Services.

At a time when the Company is painting a bleak picture of its financial performance, BT Executives are still being paid huge share option bonuses, and other managers are still receiving recognition awards. François Barrault, the failed CEO of Global Services, was awarded a £2.85 million leaving package. The CWU is clear that if BT Executives and managers deserve to be rewarded then so do CWU represented grades.

A meeting is scheduled between CWU and BT negotiators on Wednesday 3rd June, which is expected to be crucial to the direction of the talks. CWU branches and members will be kept informed of developments.
